The first shipment of sun block for Guinea-Bissau went out in 2007. About 90 albinos there are helped by the foundation.
Thanks to an article in the NRC Jan van Maanen approached the foundation for help for 30 albinos. Jan van Maanen has been living in Guinea-Bissau for 20 years and is the Dutch / British honorary consul there. He was approached by Alberto Siga, the chairman of the Albino Association of Guinea-Bissau. They wanted to make an inventory of the number of albinos in Guinea-Bissau. Financial support for this project was received and 75 albinos were found of which 30 lived in or near the capital city. Since then the number of albinos receiving sun block has risen to 90.
Distribution and instruction Shipment is organised in conjunction with Mavegro Trading, Jan van Maanen’s company. Containers go from Rotterdam to Guinea-Bissau on a monthly basis. The foundation can always send a box of bottles in one of these containers. Jan van Maanen and Alberto Siga take care of the distribution in the capital.
