Since 2009 the Stiching Afrikaanse Albinos has been organising half yearly shipments of sun block for albinos in and around Moshi, Tanzania.
Early in 2009 Albert Brink, a Netherlander living in Moshi at that time, got in touch with the foundation because he was worried about a large group of about 800 albinos who had no sun block.
Prof. Henning-Grossmann is leading the project and the local contact is dr. Alfred Naburi of the Regional Dermatology Training Centre (RDTC), part of the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre. This renowned centre was set up many years ago and has a great deal of knowledge and expertise concerning. This makes it an excellent partner to work with.
Distribution and instruction Transports leave the Netherlands with DPA (Development Project Assistance)as sea freight. DPA delivers at the harbour of Dar es Salaam from where it is taken by truck to Arusha. There the boxes of sun block are taken over by the RDTC.
The RDTC has a well run out patients clinic where 800 albinos who visit the clinic regularly are registered. There is also a mobile albino clinic which visits the villages. The bottles of sun block sent by the foundation are distributed in these villages in the Moshi area. During these surgeries the albino’s skin is examined and if necessary given treatment. At the same time instruction is given on means of keeping the sun off such as wide hats, sun glasses and a supply of sun block.
