Since 2009 the Stichting Afrikaanse Albino’s has been helping about 200 albinos in Zimbabwe with sun block.
The foundation was approached by the organisation IMBA, which helps underprivileged children and their surroundings in the township of Chitungwiza and Seke Rural where1.5 million people live., One of the founders of the organisation, a member of the Rotary Club in Chitungwiza, had come across albinos during his work in Zimbabwe, as had others behind the foundation and they had been deeply affected by their situation.
Distribution and instruction Sun block is shipped by boat via South Africa or Mozambique and reaches Chitungwiza by truck or train via Harare. The Child Development Manager of the organisation IMBA (www.imbachildrenshome.com ) and various Rotarians then take care of the local distribution. They also give instruction and organise storage of the sun block there. As well as this there is a meeting for albinos twice a month. Once a month there is a free eye test with an optician in Harare available and a suitable pair of glasses can be picked out.
