Mile pole in Mali: sun block is good
Wednesday, 09 March 2011 21:02

The sun block that was produced in Mali at the end January as part of the project ‘local production’ has been tested by the National Laboratory in Bamako, approved and pronounced GOOD.  The University hospital in Amsterdam has also received a sample which still has to be tested.

In the laboratory at the Dermatologic Institution Marchoux volunteers are hard at work. Now they have had the green light they want to produce as much sun block as possible. The Dutch volunteer there is working together with two albinos, Ousmane and Joseph. She will be helping them until the end of April so it is important for them to be on top of the process by then so that they can carry on production on their own.

In the institution they also provide albinos with information and instruction ‘We see many albino’s with skin cancers. That is why we inform parents with young children and babies that are albino about why it is so important to start using sun block. At the same time we also start to provide the sun block that we have produced here ourselves’ the volunteer proudly explains.
