In November a volunteer travelled to Mali on behalf of the Stichting Afrikaanse Albino´s in order to set up a second local production project there. Since then over 600 pots of cream have been made so the trip has been a success.

A third of the ingredients has been used resulting in 120 litres of sun block. This will protect over 100 albinos from the sun for a whole year. In the mean time our volunteer in Mali is preparing for her departure. A few ingredients still have to be obtained so that the albinos who have been trained for it can continue the work. With around 300 registered albinos in Mali at least 240 litres more need to be made in order to provide them all with a year’s protection.

In the last few months the volunteer has been working hard together with two albinos in the laboratory at the Dermatologic Institution Marchoux in Bamako in order to produce this sun block. This has been tested at the National Laboratory in Barnako, approved and validated, after which the real production could commence.
