The Foundation has a new chairman
Monday, 28 March 2011 00:00

After six years the initiator of the Foundation, Nienke Sonneveld, has passed her chairman’s gavel on to Marjolein Geurts, formerly the foundation’s secretary.

This change within the committee became official during the committee meeting on 13 March 2011. Nienke had no worries about handing her leadership over to Marjolein: ‘After so many years it will good for the organisation to have fresh leadership” Marjolein is a doctor and gained her M.D. in neurology at the University Hospital in Utrecht. She has been actively involved in the work of the foundation as secretary since 2007.

‘In six years’ time the foundation has experienced enormous organisational growth. I see the position of chairman at this moment in time as a challenge because the first steps towards  an even more professional organisation are now  being taken.,’ Marjolein says.

An external advice bureau has made a free survey of the the foundation’s present organisation structure. The decision to rearrange this structure has been taken.  It is now headed up by a committee of three (Chairman Marjolein Geurts, Secretary Emma Blok and treasurer Judith Hanemaaijer), and has three primary processes (recruitment, transport & logistics and Consumer relations), and three secondary, supportive ones (human resource, PR en finances). Each process has it’s own supervisor and further there are over 30 volunteers involved!

Marjolein continues: ‘With this new organisation structure we hope for a greater efficiency and naturally also better results. In 2011 a lot of new volunteers have joined us and we are all busy collecting as many bottles of sun block as possible and setting up activities to raise money. In particular we are asking attention for projects for local (African) production of sun Block. It will be really great when we can help the albinos in Malawi, Mali and soon Tanzania in this way so that they can make sub block in their own countries. ‘
