As well as supplying sun block the foundation also realises the necessity of stimulating the local production of sun block in African countries.
Local production means that albinos are no longer dependant on gifts of bottles for the protection of their skin. The Stichting Afrikaanse Albinos supports two projects and is working together with those concerned to get these set up. One project the foundation is helping can be found at the Queen Elisabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi. In the ‘skin clinic’ there a laboratory, where the production of sun block can be carried out independently, has been fitted out. In Mali we are supporting the Albino Association S.I.A.M, where a laboratory is being set up at Dermatological Institution Marchoux in Bamako for the production of sun block.
